Giant Piano Program
We transformed the gallery with piano projections.
The Process
-
Choose a range of octaves on the MIDI keyboard (the physical keys)
-
Create the graphic representation of the piano keys. In this case, I created standard white and black keys in Illustrator.
-
Then I created a colored version of each key in After Effects.
-
All standard and colored versions of keys are exported as separate layers with alpha channels.
-
Export audio files for the note that corresponds to each key (we chose an organ-esque sound).
-
Import all graphics and sound effects into WATCHOUT Production software.
-
Hook up MIDI controller to WATCHOUT Production computer.
-
Program each key to trigger an opacity change that reveals the colored version of itself.
-
Program each key to trigger the corresponding sound effect.
